EP 26: Purpose Isn’t a Destination—It’s a Way of Being

We throw the word “purpose” around a lot in this industry.

Build a purpose-driven business. Follow your purpose. Align with your purpose.

But what if purpose isn’t something we “follow” at all?
What if it’s something we choose to embody—today, now, before the book deal, the retreat center, or the $100K launch?

This is where most of us get stuck. We treat purpose like a finish line. Something we’ll reach after we hit that revenue goal, or sign that dream client, or finally quit our 9–5.

But purpose isn’t a destination. It’s a state of being.

The Trap of “Finding” Your Purpose

For high-achieving entrepreneurs, the pressure to have a clearly defined, perfectly packaged purpose can feel like a burden. You’re not just running a business—you’re building a legacy. That’s a big deal. And when the world tells you your work should feel effortless, or that “alignment” means “ease,” it’s no wonder we start to question ourselves when things get hard.

But here’s the truth: purpose isn’t handed to you. It’s not something you wait to find.

It’s something you decide to live into.

Every day you wake up and ask, “What would it look like to live on purpose today?”
Not tomorrow. Not when you’ve earned another certification. Not when your business finally “feels easy.”

Today.

Authority Over Expertise

This is where so many women hold themselves back. They mistake authority for expertise. They think they need another course, another degree, another gold star before they can show up and lead.

But no one’s asking for your résumé.
They’re asking for your presence.

True authority doesn’t come from your head—it lives in your body. It’s felt in your voice, your energy, your lived experience. That’s what creates resonance. That’s what builds trust. That’s what can’t be replicated or replaced by AI or a templated business model.

And that’s why your stories matter.

The Business Case for Storytelling

AI can write a caption. It can build a funnel. It can even plan your launch calendar.

But it can’t tell your story.

It can’t replicate the moment you realized your old life didn’t fit anymore.
Or the moment you chose to build something bigger than yourself.
Or the thousand small decisions you made between then and now.

In an industry saturated with sameness, your story is your brand.
The more you repeat it, the more you own it, the more magnetic it becomes.

This isn’t about overexposing yourself or turning your Instagram feed into a diary. It’s about choosing one anchor story—your origin, your inciting moment, your defining choice—and letting it lead.

Yes, you’ll evolve. Yes, your offers will grow. But the story stays rooted. That’s what creates brand cohesion, even as you expand.

Alignment ≠ Easy

There’s a dangerous myth in the coaching space that “if it’s not easy, it’s not aligned.”

Let’s be real. Alignment isn’t always comfortable.
Living on purpose doesn’t mean you won’t face resistance. It means you choose your challenges from a place of power.

Running a business will stretch you. Building a brand with integrity takes discipline. And creating a legacy-defining body of work? That’s no small feat.

But hard isn’t the enemy. Confusion is.

When you know what you’re here to say, who you’re here to serve, and how you’re uniquely positioned to lead—everything else gets clearer.

That’s the real work of being a Soulful CEO.
